Fuel up. Redd up. Get up for Homewood!

To RSVP, please fill out this form.

Operation Better Block, Inc. is proud to present ‘Fuel Up. Redd Up. Get Up for Homewood’ – a series of community focused events leading up to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. Homewood has great community support on race day and was voted ‘Favorite Neighborhood on the Course’ by runners in 2015.

The first event in this series is ‘Fuel Up Homewood,’ a community dinner, on Thursday, April 14, 2016. It is followed by ‘Redd-Up Homewood,’ a day of service on Saturday, April 23, 2016 which is Operation Better Block’s semi-annual neighborhood-wide cleanup.  The culminating event will be the Mile 18 Fluid Station and Community Festival on Frankstown Ave. on the Marathon route where Homewood residents and volunteers will “Get Up for Homewood’ and cheer on the runners.

The family-friendly community dinner offers residents an opportunity to come together to eat and discuss their perspective of the neighborhood’s history and current issues amid a transformed, awe-inducing space. Homewood residents who are running the race will be honored at this event. The dinner will be held at the 7800 Susquehanna Building and will be served to residents by Steel City Road Runners members, who are training for the race.

‘Redd Up Homewood’ activities will include a neighborhood cleanup as well as landscaping and beautification of vacant lots and streets along the marathon route in Homewood. Breakfast and lunch will be provided this day.

At all events, residents and volunteers will be sure to enjoy surprises, entertainment, and fun educational programming aimed at celebrating Homewood's history. The events provide residents the chance to connect with each other and with the host organizations.

The event series is a creative and thoughtful collaboration among six organizations in Pittsburgh including: Operation Better Block, GTECH Strategies, Repair the World, Whistle, Homegrown (a program of Phipps Conservatory) and Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon,
